Be sure to get a crate large enough for the puppy to move around in - This helps with house breaking! If the puppy is to stay in the crate while you are gone for any length of time, the bigger the better. If the puppy just needs a "safe place" for sleeping, etc you can go with a smaller crate - one size lower.

If you buy a crate for an adult dog, please get a crate big enough that he/she can fit in from tip of nose to base of tail (at least 4 inches longer in each direction). He/she should be able to stand up, sit, turn and lie down on his/her side stretched out comfortably. If you buy a crate for a puppy, please get one that will fit him/her as an adult. You'd better buy a crate with divider so you can expand the crate area as your puppy grows. If you are in doubt of size, please opt for the next size up. A crate slightly too large is better than one too small.
